Archives for category: class readings

Well, as the title mentions, it was so very nice out this weekend, especially on sunday. Which is basically why I got nothing done yesterday, opting instead for a walk around Lac Beauchamp in Gatineau and am writing my sunday post on monday. Oh well…

So I’ve been showing my research project off to a couple of friends after they bugged me for it for a couple of weeks. I now feel like I’ve seen my own face enough times to last a lifetime. Every single person I know who has seen the video has laughed at my impersonation of a 12 year old tweenie. Apparently I am a ham, and the pig tails were a good idea after all.

I don’t know if I mentioned this in my last post, cause I can’t remember when I finally sat down and did it, but I am now officially done reading whatching YouTube. So I am now only one chapter behind in this class. Woohoo! I think… I somehow can’t seem to decide whether celebrating being only slightly behind in a class is a good thing or not at this point.

On a completely unrelated note, the new Harry Potter movie is coming out in less than 2 weeks and I’m starting to get really excited. It will be a sad day when the last movie comes out next summer, like a piece of my child hood is finally coming to an end. If you are a Harry Potter fan, might I recommend looking up the Harry Potter Puppet Pals on YouTube if your not already familiar with them. They are some of my favorite videos online.

So I went and saw Paranormal activity yesterday,

Didn’t sleep most of the night and had a near panic attack when my dad came back home at like 5 A.M. and wandered around the kitchen making oatmeal.

I really need to stop getting talked into seeing these stupid movies… My imagination is clearly not my friend here.

Still working on various projects for school and I got a bit more ahead in my readings for new media. I’m now somewhere in the first half of the 6th chapter of watching YouTube. I’d be farther along, but I got sucked into a live streaming of John Stewart’s Rally To Restore Sanity instead. Kind of ironic since the 6th chapter is about politics and conflict and such.

If you get the chance, look the rally up on google and read some of the articles about it, especially the ones that feature his closing speech. Or better yet, I’m sure it’s already made its way onto YouTube by now somewhere. For all the humor and the ridiculousness, he makes some really interesting  and valid points about our media system both in the USA and in North America as a whole. And although it seems silly and down right un-responsible to take a spoof and satire comedy show seriously, I can’t help but allocate credit where credit is due, for intelligent argument and reasoning. I think what’s really silly is that I live in a world where I feel I can put more trust it the truths and reasonings of a comedy show personality, then in my media and news system. Now that is really sad.

The pictures I posted are of some of the signs at the rally. There is a list going around of the 100 best posters and I thought these ones were great and had to share.

Till class resumes this week and I have something new to share,

I bid you, Adieu!

Hello again cyberspacians,

And mom and Steve, cause I’ m aware that you both and my teacher are about the only ones really reading this thing anyways…

So I am now over half way through my readings for this class, for this week. I’m presently taking a break from working on a fake grant application form for one of my other courses. All the short answers have been answered and now all that’s left are these huge answer boxes asking what my project is really about, and how it will benefit the community, and so on. Honestly, it just looks ominous and intimidating on the page and like it requires a level of effort I’m feeling a little too lazy to give right now…

( My friend Jiggers is in the library  next to me right now and just laughed at that last paragraph. I’m now distracting both myself from my financing in the arts homework, and distracting him from his art history readings with my incessant typing. Awesome.)

I’m writing all of this useless nonsense basically because I don’t really have much to comment on from my readings. The chapter about Youtube and feminism was interesting but the teacher did a pretty good job of covering it in class a while ago, so it was more of a revision and remembrance  than anything else.

I’m 2/3 through the internet community chapter. At which point my attention span died because its a 30+ page chapter and it’s reading week and that’s just what happens during reading week. I instead opted for drawing a picture that will eventually be part of a larger submission on deviantart.com. Or at least it will be if my attention span doesn’t short circuit again before then.

Well this was a long enough submission, Will get back to you later with something more intelligent to say… probably…  eventually…

till then, Adieu!

(p.s. While I’m thinking of it, deviantart.com would probably have been a really cool alternative subject to do a project on. )
